Synopsis:
To be an artist is to turn any object into a magical one. That was the aim of one of the most brilliant writers and artists of the 20th Century, Jorge Eielson. However, his desire to avoid notoriety and a fifty-three year exile made him a legendary name – not only in the European art world, but in his home country, Peru. In “Virir en una obra maestra” Gabriela Yepes explores Eielson’s luminous art and incredible life. TRT = 26 min.

Director bio:
Gabriela is a Peruvian award-winning filmmaker who started working in TV and documentaries in Peru at the National Peruvian Television Network (the Peruvian equivalent of the American PBS). She was part of the creative team of The Good Land, a documentary series about sustainable development sponsored by the United Nations. In 2002 she and Antonio Rodriguez shot My Destiny’s Way, an award-winning documentary about education in Peru sponsored by the Ford Foundation (Education in Color Contest Winner, 2003; The night of the shorts Film Festival, Lima 2004). She has finished her last year as a Master of Fine Arts candidate in the Film and Video Production Program in the University of Texas at Austin. She has won several awards, like the Fulbright Fellowship, the Good Neighbor Fellowship at the University of Texas at Austin and the CLASPO Summer Internship Program at the Lozano Long Latin American Institute of the University of Texas at Austin to complete her films as a graduate student.
