Synopsis:
From Marseille, come the stories of Fatima Rhazi and North African immigrant women cultivating new lives for themselves and their families in contemporary France. Riots throughout France in 2005 and the presidential election in 2007 are backdrops to the stories of Fatima Rhazi, Morocco’s first female sports photographer, and the women she works to empower. Director bio:
Shara K. Lange is founder and director of Light Projects: Documentary/Art/Community and completed her MFA in film production at the University of Texas at Austin’s Radio/TV/Film department, with emphases on documentary and experimental film. Her thesis film tells the story of North African immigrant women in southern France. She was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship to study Arabic and to make the documentary, The Dressmakers, in Morocco in 2007.
