Director bio:
Marianela Vega Oroza is a Peruvian filmmaker currently pursuing an MFA in Film production at the University of Texas at Austin. She got her Bachelor Degree in Audiovisual Communication at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú. As a director, she approaches documentary from a personal point of view. Topics like identity, memory and family are constantly present in her work. Her film Ausencia (2002), as well as her short documentaries “Away” (2002) and “Distancia” (2004), have been screened at film and video festivals in countries such as Spain, Ecuador, USA, Germany, Mexico and Peru. These three films were screened at the Week of Experimental Film in Madrid, 2005. In August 2007, her film “Conversations II” received the Best Short Film award given by CONACINE (Peruvian Film Commission). She was recently selected by the Center of Contemporary Culture in Barcelona for their program “One Month, One Artist.”
