Former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto addressed thousands of supporters at a campaign rally shortly before Ms. Bhutto was assassinated in Rawalpindi, Pakistan.

Photographer bio:
John Moore is a senior staff photographer for Getty Images. He has been based in Denver, Colorado since July 2008, after moving back to the U.S. from Islamabad, Pakistan, where he was based with his family for three years.
He was born in Norfolk, Virginia June 19, 1967 and grew up in Irving, Texas. Moore studied at the University of Texas at Austin and graduated with a bachelors of science from the department of Radio Television Film in December 1990. He joined the Associated Press in the summer of 1991, first based in Nicaragua, then India, South Africa, Mexico and Egypt, working for the AP for almost 14 years.
Moore joined Getty Images in 2005 and has since worked throughout South Asia and the Middle East for Getty. He has extensively covered the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, working in the some of the world’s most dangerous combat zones. In 2007 he was on assignment thrice in Iraq, once in Afghanistan and spent much of the rest of the year covering Pakistan’s slide into instability, culminating in the assassination of former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.
Moore has won top photography awards from the Overseas Press Club, The Society of Professional Journalists, World Press Photo and shared the 2005 Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Photography for coverage of the war in Iraq. He recently was named Magazine Photographer of the Year for 2007 in the annual Pictures of the Year competition and NPPA’s 2008 Best of Photojournalism contest’s Photojournalist of the Year (Larger Markets).
