As part of its primary commitment to support student work, and especially to create and foster opportunities for students to develop professional experience and contacts within their fields, the University of Texas Documentary Center offered five scholarships in its first year of operations. Two of these scholarships were funded by the general operating budget of the UT Documentary Center, and three of them were funded through a generous private donation from Charlie Ryan, for which each recipient and every person associated with the UT Documentary Center is deeply grateful.

Four of the scholarships assisted UT students in professional internships. For further descriptions, click on a name: Ryan Rios, a Radio-TV-Film undergraduate student, competed for and was awarded a prestigious summer internship with HBO Documentaries in New York City; Ajae Clearway and Keith Wilson, MFA students in Radio-TV-Film, interned at Faction Films in London; and Kendra Dorty, a spring 2007 MFA graduate of Radio-TV-Film, interned at Mentorn Media in London.

One scholarship was awarded to Mike Andrick, a student in the Professional Master’s Program in Journalism, to help fund his photojournalism project in economically-depressed West Virginia.
